Kenny Wilcox
Mentors and Youth In Action (YIA) Coordinator
Kenny and his wife have called Salida home beginning in 2002 after trading in the cornfields of Iowa for the mountains of Chaffee County. It would seem that there must be something in the water as their family has grown to include four boys since their arrival to the high country. During the summer of 1999 Kenny worked as a camp counselor for children and youth in the nearby Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Halfway through that summer, Kenny changed his major from pre-veterinary to camping ministry. He hasn’t looked back.
After earning his bachelor degree from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, he has served as a marriage counselor, youth director, and managed a financial assistance program for those in need. He also helped develop and create the Garage Band Teen Center in Salida. Kenny is passionate about helping people realize and engage their potential. In Kenny’s spare time you are likely to find him coaching the Salida Cross Country teams, climbing a mountain or reading a children’s book as recommended by one of his boys.
