Carmel Burton
Family Education Coordinator
Carmel Burton came to Salida in 2018. During her time here, she has fallen in love with Chaffee County and this community. She has been with FYI since January 2023. She teaches Nurturing Parenting classes, as well as, Guiding Good Choices classes. Some of her favorite work with FYI, is her one-one work with families. She is constantly researching new ways to engage families and youth. Carmel wants to empower parents and caregivers to find their true potential.
Carmel is originally from outside Chicago. She received her Bachelor's in Visual Arts and received an Education License from Regis University in Denver in 2014. This brought her to Colorado, and she never looked back. Well, she is constantly visiting her huge family in Chicago. This grounds her, as all 100+ of them have taught her so much and made her who she is today. Her connection with her family, the work and experiences she has gone through throughout her life, have brought her to this role within FYI.
Her life in the Arkansas Valley, with her husband and her son brings her joy. In her free time, you can find Carmel hiking, rafting, running, ice skating and camping throughout Chaffee County. She loves cooking, reading, cuddling her cat, long walks along the river and making art.
