WHAT IS "FAMILY & YOUTH INITIATIVES (FYI)"?

Family and Youth Initiatives (FYI) is the prevention division within Chaffee County Department of Human Services, with a focus on providing evidence-based prevention resources for children, youth, and families in Chaffee County. FYI’s programs promote health and reduce risk to build a strong community. FYI is recognized as a community leader in prevention and family support services and is funded through multiple government grants, foundations, Chaffee County Department of Human Services (DHS), and generous community support. FYI is seated within DHS, under the overall direction of the Director of Human Services, and all FYI staff are employees of the County.

HISTORY of FYI

The Build A Generation® Community Prevention Policy Boards founded Family and Youth Initiatives in January 2006. Through an in-depth community assessment and strategic planning process BAG spearheaded co-locating several existing local programs and services under one roof. FYI was born to further strengthen, streamline, and coordinate resources; increase effectiveness; and decrease duplication.
