Chaffee County Mentors Staff

Tara Skubella joins the FYI team as Mentoring Manager after being the Outreach Coordinator for Boys & Girls Clubs of Chaffee County and the My Kids R Covered public health insurance initiative. Tara graduated from Northwest Missouri State University in 1997 with a Bachelors degree in Eath Science Education.  After teaching high school geology and earth science near Kansas City, Tara found a passion for working with   youth outside the classroom.  Since then, she has worked with a variety of youth and families programs for over 12 years.  Her experience ranges from working in wilderness therapy with Eckerd Youth Adventures and Alternative Youth Adventures to leading families as an outdoor guide for Sanborn Camps and being the Executive Director for Boys & Girls Clubs of South Park. Tara lives near Buena Vista with her husband and 12 year old daughter, Ruby.  She enjoys backpacking, international travel, geology, spending time with family, the summer sun and snuggling up to the wood burning stove in the winter. Tara is excited to be on board with F.Y.I. and is looking forward to working with the Chaffee County Mentors Team to making a difference one youth at a time.

Natalie Moore is joining the F.Y.I. team as Mentoring and Youth in Action Coordinator after being the Branch Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chaffee County –Salida Branch. Natalie received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Metropolitan State College of Denver in 2004 followed shortly thereafter with her Art Education K-12 teacher licensure in January 2005. Natalie has taught Art Education K-12 in Jefferson County, St. Vrain, the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities and has substitute taught in Chaffee County and Lake County. Natalie has worked with non-profits including the Center for Visual Arts, Denver Public Housing and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Chaffee County.  Within these organizations she has explored the creative connection between youth and mentors.  Exploring each child’s potential by offering guidance, support, and encouragement aimed at developing a strong sense of character. Natalie loves to travel and has worked for a European travel company.  Her favorite trips include New York (to see the famous installation art “The Gates”), Paris, Austria, and a trip that involved a $500.00 Nova that she and her husband drove to Canada and back.  Natalie lives in Buena Vista with her husband and dog, Kamala. Her enthusiasm for life and joy of teaching youth make her a perfect fit for the Program Coordinator for Chaffee County Mentors.

Juli Waters started with Chaffee Mentors Plus in August 2010.  She has over seven years experience working with youth in Denver, and is excited about her move to Salida.  Juli’s background includes working at a teen homeless shelter in Denver called “Urban Peak”, and teaching in a youth intervention program and running elementary and middle school afterschool programs at “Catholic Charities”.  During this time she also earned her Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology and Counselor Education, which helped her work as a counselor and post-secondary coach in a high school for students who had previously dropped out.  Juli is also bi-lingual in Spanish, having learned most of it while living in Venezuela and teaching “English as a Second Language” (ESL) classes.  Juli loves her work and appreciates  the opportunity to meet such amazing people and contribute to the community.  Juli’s other biggest passion is travelling, and when not doing so is enjoying everything Chaffee County has to offer including mountain biking, hiking, snowboarding, and learning to kayak.
